UK organisations have come under fire from consumer affairs TV programme Watchdog for offering sub-standard service.
A survey conducted by the BBC found that three quarters of the 7,120 respondents believe that customer service in this country was getting worse.
One damning finding was that just 28 people said customer service is getting better.
Perhaps the worst revelation, though, was that nearly half of the respondents said that they don’t feedback bad experiences, denying companies valuable insight into how to turn things around.
However, businesswoman Deborah Meaden of Dragon’s Den fame, stuck up for customer service in the UK, saying standards are higher than ever.
“The customer is absolutely king, customer care is the most important thing you will ever, ever get in business,” she said.
“To me, by the time we’ve got to the call centre we already have a problem.
“Customer service should be about getting the service right in the first place,” she added.
